Module 2 – Infection Prevention in Clinical and Community Practice

This module examines the practical application of infection prevention and control measures within occupational therapy practice. Students develop knowledge and skills in standard and transmission-based precautions, hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, personal protective equipment, environmental cleaning and the management of infectious diseases and exposure incidents. Emphasis is placed on maintaining safe, person-centred and occupation-focused practice while ensuring continuity of care across diverse service settings.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

1. Apply evidence-based infection prevention and control measures within occupational therapy practice.
2. Select and implement appropriate standard and transmission-based precautions according to identified infection risks.
3. Demonstrate safe management of hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene, personal protective equipment and environmental cleaning.
4. Respond appropriately to infectious disease risks and exposure incidents while maintaining continuity of care.
5. Integrate infection prevention strategies into person-centred and occupation-focused interventions.
