Module 3 – Consultation, Communication and Risk Management

This module explores how infection prevention principles are integrated into everyday occupational therapy practice through effective clinical reasoning, communication and interdisciplinary collaboration. Students develop skills in infection risk assessment, client education, professional communication, documentation, incident reporting, reflective practice and continuous quality improvement to support safe, coordinated and evidence-informed care.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this module, students will be able to:

  1. Conduct infection risk assessments to inform safe occupational therapy practice.
  2. Communicate infection prevention information effectively with clients, carers and interdisciplinary teams.
  3. Demonstrate appropriate documentation, incident reporting and professional communication consistent with infection prevention requirements.
  4. Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary professionals to support coordinated infection prevention and client care.
  5. Apply reflective practice and continuous quality improvement principles to strengthen infection prevention and professional practice.
