If you’re aiming for Tier 4 Professional Membership, your journey begins at Tier 3.<\/p>

As a Tier 3 Professional Member, you will successfully graduate with your chosen credential allowing you to progress to Tier 4 where you can formally enrol in your selected professional endorsement and continue your development as a recognised expert in the working animal sector.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

WAFA offers a range of professional pathways, each tailored to a specific area of expertise within the working animal sector. These pathways are designed to reflect the unique knowledge, skills, and responsibilities required in different professional roles, such as training, therapy, advocacy, regulation, and more.<\/p>

Each Tier 3 credential pathway leads to a range of Tier 4 endorsements which act to increase your skillset in a certain niche.<\/p>

Currently available credential pathways include:<\/p>

To be eligible for an Endorsement, you must first complete the relevant credential pathway.<\/p>

For example, to enrol in the Assistance Animal Public Access Test Assessor (AAPAT) endorsement, you must first hold the Certified Assistance Animal Trainer (CAAT) credential.<\/p>

This staged approach ensures that all endorsed professionals have a solid foundation of knowledge and practice before progressing into more specialised or regulatory roles.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

To successfully graduate with a WAFA Tier 4 Endorsement, candidates must demonstrate a higher level of skills, knowledge, experience, and professional practice in a skilled niche of the working animals sphere.<\/p>

Each endorsement includes both theoretical education and practical learning experience, and requires successful completion of a variety of theory and practical assessments which may include:<\/p>

  • – WAFA theory learning assignments or online exams to assesses candidate understanding of key concepts, legislation, ethics, animal welfare standards, disability rights, and best practices whilst ensuring foundational knowledge is in place before progressing to practical application.<\/li>
  • – Logged hours of practical learning or experience to demonstrate the candidate has real-world, hands-on experience under varied conditions. This will assist with building confidence and competence working with diverse teams, animals, and situations, and supports professional development through exposure to complex or challenging scenarios.<\/li>
  • – Reflective journaling which encourages self-awareness, critical thinking, and learning from experience, promoting continuous improvement and ethical decision-making. This provides insight into the candidate\u2019s evolving professional identity and practice.<\/li>
  • – Evidence of competency via written or video submission to verify that candidates can apply skills in real-life or simulated settings which helps assess communication, training technique, animal handling, and problem-solving. This ensures compliance with evidence-based, humane, and person-centred practice.<\/li>
  • – Written case studies to demonstrate depth of understanding and real-world application that assesses depth of understanding and ability to apply theory to practical, individualised support. This will demonstrate the candidate\u2019s capacity to navigate complex systems like the NDIS or public access requirements and highlights ethical reasoning, stakeholder collaboration, and documentation skills.<\/li>
  • – Third party assessment to provide an objective review of the candidate\u2019s skillset by an experienced external supervisor or mentor. This will help validate that the candidate is meeting professional standards in live or observed contexts and ensures alignment with WAFA\u2019s national expectations for safety, professionalism, and capability.<\/li>
  • – Submission of documentation such as policy and procedure manuals, relevant material and safety data sheets (MSDS), incident reports, emergency response protocols, husbandry manuals, WHS assessments or client intake and screening questionnaires. This will verify candidate understanding and compliance with workplace health and safety, human and animal welfare, legal obligations, and professional responsibility and ensures candidates can operate ethically and safely in a real or simulated organisation by demonstrating capacity for record-keeping, transparency, and risk management.<\/li>
  • – Written reports will assess the candidate\u2019s communication, analysis, and documentation skills essential to reporting incidents, progress, or outcomes by simulating professional reporting required in funding applications, support plans, or legal documentation. This will ensure that candidates can summarise, evaluate, and justify actions taken.<\/li>
  • – Additional assessment types may be used from time to time as needed to accurately assess candidates.\u00a0

  • Candidates must refer to peer reviewed literature in all submissions as it is expected that candidates undertake additional reading and research external to the course requirements.<\/p>

    Once all required documentation and assessments have been submitted, WAFA staff will review each component and provide feedback. Graduation is granted upon successful completion of all endorsement requirements.<\/p>

    Candidates may be required to revise and resubmit assessments based on feedback. Up to three (3) resubmissions per assessment are permitted at no additional cost. Additional fees may apply for further attempts unless exceptional circumstances apply.<\/p>

    It is recommended that candidates allow 6 months to complete each WAFA endorsement. Extensions may be available; however, fees may apply for time beyond the initial 12-month period unless exceptional circumstances apply.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

    Once you graduate as a Tier 4 member you are responsible for ensuring that your pre-qualifying documents remain valid at all times, and that you participate in regular Professional Supervision and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
